Businesses are increasingly reliant on computer productivity, yet very few users are able to optimize their computers and it is up to the IT department to take the lead in this area, bearing in mind that it is often the optimization of the simplest of tasks which will make the most difference to most users. This article covers simple steps that any user can follow to rapidly make any computer faster. Implementing step 1 or step 2 should take no more than 15 minutes and will work for both PC and Mac users.

Step 1 -  Clean the computer registry

Slow computers often have errors in their registry. The registry is similar to the nervous system of the computer and its function is to connect software hardware and computer files. Over time, errors occur and this slows down computers, frequently their registry become corrupted. A straightforward step is to locate any errors in the registry then repair them. Users could in theory attempt to cleanup the registry manually, however this method is not recommended as it requires deep knowledge of both the structure of the registry and its functions. Registry repair software are usually fast and reliable and offer overall, a better alternative to correct errors, delete unused files, poor links and deal with ActiveX components. Click on compare registry fix software for more information.

Step 2 - Delete and block adware and spyware

Another common reason leading to computers slowing-down, is the large number of spyware and adware, which are downloaded from the Internet, often without the users knowledge. Often, this takes place when peer to peer (P2P) networks are used to download videos and music for example. A simple solution to make any computer faster is to run an anti spyware or adware program to scan, remove then block these unwanted malware. It helps to test the relevant anti spyware or adware program by downloading a trial version as most of them are free. Ease of Download and Simplicity of Use, Automatic Backup, Quality of Customer Service, and of course the overall effectiveness of the software are the main features to consider. Often the simplest software are also the best, provided that they also rely on a research capability that constantly updates the software for new threats. Step 3 - Eliminate viruses

Unsurprisingly many computer viruses can slow down computers and drive down response times. Often viruses damage computer files and use excessive resources such as large amount RAM and disk space. In order to overcome these problems, as well as optimise performance, users should run the latest version of the best anti-virus programs. In the end, they will also be in a stronger position to improve their computer performance.

Step 4 - Simple housekeeping tasks

There are many simple housekeeping tasks which can be done to improve the speed of any computer, for example uninstalling any software that is not needed.  Stopping programs launching automatically is also useful to speed up any computer and is usually very straightforward. These simple tasks generally produce marginal improvements.

Step 5 - Optimise the Hard disk

For hard disks which are smaller than 2GB then at least 200MB of disk should be kept free and at least 500MB for larger hard disks. This freed up space is an important factor of computer speed as it is used by temporary files which software require to work effectively. This free space also enables your computer to swap files as the computers starts using virtual memory (when it runs out of RAM). The system can slow down significantly in that event, if space on the hard disk is insufficient. Disk scanning programs such as Scandisk for Windows can help check for errors on the hard disk. For instance whilst some hard disks may be large enough, they may be too fragmented with some sectors being unusable. Defragmenting the hard disk is another action, which will improve the response time of any computer.

Step 6 - Optimising the RAM

Some programs are poorly designed and do not release RAM resources after they are closed. This reduces the amount of memory available for other programs. Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. Another free option is to avoid using some computer programs simultaneously.

Step 7 - Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. The best solution is often to replace the fan, this overcomes the problem by increasing the air flow through the computer thereby reducing its temperature and ultimately improving reponse times.

NetSuite Pricing

All of the technology and business contacts I regularly talk to keep talking about cloud computing. But what is it, what does it really mean for business and what are the financial and physical upsides?

Cloud means Internet. The computing happens on the Internet – in place of the software you use running on your computer, it’s hosted on the Internet on a server located in a data centre usually staffed by people who are adept in managing technology. This type of “cloud” software is commonly known as “on demand” or Software as a Service (SaaS).

Some good examples of popular Software as a Service are:

Web based CRM Software (Customer Relationship Management) – Salesforce.com pricing around $9 per user/month.
Small business management and accounting software (small business ERP) – Salesorder.com pricing $45 per user/month.
Medium sized business ERP software – NetSuite pricing approximately $99 per user/month.

There are 3 substantial benefits for every business here:

Time, cost savings and reliability

Businesses don’t require a dedicated information technology professional to help them choose, bed in and monitor the hardware and software infrastructure thus lowering operating expenses and time to implement. The effort of regularly backing up data is taken away as this is normally an inherent feature of the “cloud” software. Cloud software “operators” often have stand by systems that can be deployed in seconds should a significant failure occur.

Easier selection and wider choice

Through the ubiquitous web browser, businesses now have instant access to a huge range of software packages they can in most cases immediately evaluate and effectively work out if the software fits their needs at minimal expense. This makes it very easy for managers in large concerns to circumvent the usual information technology procurement processes and easily test and justify their business case.

Better user experience

The web provides immediate feedback to software vendors and has driven significant progress in user interface design resulting in more intuitive systems in turn improving learning times and improving user satisfaction. This of course means quicker adoption and better productivity.

People will have an easier time of knowing who you are at social functions when you wear a name tag.   Lots of different things can be printed on name tags including your name, name of your corporation, and job position. They can also include a corporate logo or other piece of artwork. They are a nice touch for attending all types of meeting and conventions as well as other types of functions. You will need to choose between a wide array of monogram name tags, badges, and tags. There are so many different name tags it is easy to find one that suits you. The lettering for your name tags can be stamped, silk screened, or engraved in a variety of colors. They can be made from a variety of materials such a paper and plastic. You can create custom name tags by to type of materials, font, and colors you select. The price you will pay for name tags will depend on both the quantity that you order and the style that you select. Often there will be a minimum order required when you order name tags. The rates can also change depending on the number of letters and artwork you select. It is becoming more and more common to order name tags over the internet. You can place an order and upload your information including your artwork on the website of the supplier. Company’s will usually let you fax or email orders as well. It often takes around a week to process an order for name tags. It can take longer to produce an order for a large quantity of name tags. Many corporations use employee name tags. Putting a photo on the name tag will add security to your corporate environment or school. You can also find magnetic name tags which are put on using a magnetic clip behind the face of the name badge. People with pacemakers should not use magnetic name badges. A lot of people prefer to use magnetic name tags since there is no pin to put holes in your clothes.  Engraver for name tags can be purchased and make for a more cost effective method to provide name plates to your staff.

In order to protect their personal information, most users must change their behaviour when browsing the internet. The purpose of this article is to demistify spyware and outline three simple yet powerful habits for spyware protection.

Adware Vs Spyware - The definition of adware is simply that of any type of software package that automatically plays, displays or download advertisements on your computer. Some adware are also known as spyware (privacy-invasive software), that obtain and share information from computer users without their knowledge or consent. The main reason for learning about blocking spyware is that they can help third parties steal key information. Click on how to remove adware for more information.

Habit No 1 - Avoid Freeware. Free content (song, movies, document etc) will always be tempting for many users who see them as a bargain. Freeware and peer to peer software often end up giving you more problems than you bargained for in the long run. Users are often unaware of the fact that downloading these software also lead to setting up adware on their systems.

Prudence always work to the users advantage in the long run and with this in mind, users should only download freeware from trusted sources only.

Habit No 2 - Ignore Pop Ups. Like many, you may have come across popup ads, clicked on them and unknowingly opened up your computer to spyware and adware threats. You should probably think of using popup blockers and fortunately some of them are free and can also be downloaded from trusted sources, like the MSN and Google toolbars. The downside of these free programs however, is that they do not deal spyware already installed on your computer, and that they create a false sense of security for many users. Click on block spyware for more information.

Habit No 3 - Be sure of what you install -You may be wondering also how you even exposed your computer to spyware threats in the first place. The answer may be surprising to you: Often minor tasks which are routinely performed can jeopardise the integrity of your system. A common scenario is that you may be on line and a dialogue box appears unexpectedly asking you to download a program. You may be enclined to accept any download provided that they are free and unkowingly install spyware and adware on you computer. It is a sad fact of the internet today that some programs or files cannot be downloaded unless spyware end up on your hard disk as well. The next time you think of ways to block spyware, we hope that you will aslo avoid any download from unfamiliar sources. A simple principle to follow is not to download any software, if you do not know their purpose. Be particularly cautious when you are visiting unfamiliar sites and are instructed to download something.

Adware are an unfortunate nuisance - Adware are computer programs designed to display targetted ads, which can also significantly reduce computer speed. They adversely impact computer response times by using RAM and PCU resources and often reducing the speed of any internet connection. This article outlines four simple ways to remove Adware from any system.

Rule 1: Use Adware remover software - Our recommended solution is simply to use an adware removal software and follow some simple steps to prevent undesirable adware installation on your computer. Try free Adware removal programs versions first - It is generally easy to try adware removal programs free. This approach makes sense as it means that you will be able to test if a program can meet your needs as experience the quality of any user support and customer service. Click on how do I get rid of adware for more information

Rule 2: Avoid P2P- It usually pays to be cautious with the programs you download from the internet. For example it is advisable to stay clear of software which are delivered using Peer to Peer networks (Peer to Peer/ P2P software). Many of these software intrude computers to install adware, (whether or not their publishers would admit to it), and in practice leave computers vulnerable to virus attacks. This is a challenge for many users, as P2P are widely used to share music and film content. It usually pays to recognise if you are likely to make use of P2P and if so, you should use your preferred adware removal software after each download in order to remove any unwanted software.

Rule 3: Unprompted email warning - Another good step to follow is to not open emails from unfamiliar sources especially if they contain attachments. Remember, if an email title looks too good to be true then it is probably a scam anyway so hit “Delete” instead of opening it. Click on how to remove spyware for more information

Rule 4: Disable cookies -  Unless you know and trust the site you are browsing, you should disallow cookies. Cookies were initially designed for sites to recognise their visitors, the problem is now that they also allow adware, including spyware, which are programmed to transmit personal information about you to third parties.

To make the most use of whatever time you have available you must focus on your long term aims. If you spend all your time looking at the small things you will gradually veer off course. You should sit down and review your time management  and where your time gets used up. When we talk about time management it can mean different things to different people. When working in a group make sure everyone knows what the aims of the group should be.

The two types of time management goals are the short-term goals and long-term goals. Each one of these will require a plan of action that lists what needs doing and when it should be done. Short term goals would be those things that must happen tomorrow or within a year or two. Long term time management goals are where we plan to be in five to ten years time.

Aim for the big picture instead of worrying about short term results. Keep focused on the longer term instead of worrying too much about tomorrows problems. Goals should be considered and changed as required and they should never be set in stone.

Use your time management skills each day to plan better management of your time. A lot of people spend far too much time chasing their tails so make sure you are not one of them. Spend some of your time considering how you can make the most of the time you have to reach your long term goals

Regularly look at where you spend your time and if it is productive and well spent. Try to look with an impartial eye as though you were somebody else. Decisions should be taken because they are good and this helps prevent emotions getting in the way. Your free time should be considered as well and using time management skills can help to make the most of your relaxation time.

For any plan to succeed we must establish any requirements needed to achieve that goal. Lay out a plan of action showing how long you can spend working on each part of the plan. Our ultimate aim for where we want to end up is always the first thing to look at in time management

Your time management scheme is your plan to meet the goals you have set for yourself. You should learn the required skills and acquire the knowledge you need .Allow for the time it will take in your planning.

The application of time and energy will help you achieve your goals but it must be focused on the important things. You need a plan and a time frame to work through and you have every chance of success. Your time management goals require that you resist the temptation to waste time in any area of your life.

Just What Is Lean Manufacturing?

What is lean manufacturing, and why is it important? Expressed briefly, the lean manufacturing process is a comprehensive way to reduce waste of all types. Waste is waste, no matter where it is found.

Many studies have measured the amount of waste a typical manufacturer has, and it is usually shocking, as well as revealing.

Changing a business culture requires a total commitment and a great deal of effort. Adding banners and slogans, or dabbling in one or another program will never work. Implementing the lean manufacturing process is like adding spokes to a wheel, so the wagon can roll.

What is lean manufacturing and how to integrate the process
Learn what the process is, how to put it all together in a comprehensive, integrated plan. A common mistake is to piecemeal together your program by using good methods, without having an integrated approach so everything is connected.

4 components of the lean process
5S
Using Kaizen
Six Sigma
Value Stream

5S
This is the easiest place to begin. Implementing 5S is probably the most basic lean manufacturing process. 5S gives immediate results that anyone can appreciate; it just makes sense. You might like it so much you will want to do it at home!

Using Kaizen
This is Toyota’s famous tool for continuous improvement. The idea is that everyone in the organization re-examines their work and improves it in small ways within their control. A popular approach is to use what are called Mini-Kaizens. These are compared to the raindrops that add up to make a flood.

Using Six Sigma
Six sigma is a methodology used to monitor progress, or lack thereof. Once you get things organized, decide to continuously improve your processes, and identify areas of waste, you need a way to monitor your progress.

Value Stream Mapping
Value stream mapping is the big picture written down. Once you see where you are, you can map out a route to get where you want to be. Once learned, this becomes an internal process that changes the work environment permanently.

What is lean manufacturing and how to begin
Each individual in the company will need significant training. You will need to develop an overall strategy and training plan and recognize that this is a major commitment from the management down to the lowliest employee.

A step by step approach will lead you to your plan, depending on your specific needs. Here are five steps to implement lean manufacturing.

Decide what you want to accomplish, determine your priorities, and find which lean manufacturing processes apply
Determine categories for your workforce according to common training requirements
Make a chart, or matrix of your programs
Make the decision to manage this in-house, or to hire a lean manufacturing consultant
Construct a schedule, or time frame based on personnel and work areas
Prepare an immediate schedule and begin!

If you want to learn how to use the lean process, I highly recommend the Lean Manufacturing web-based training course. You will get a thorough understanding of all the components of lean manufacturing, including Value Stream Mapping, six sigma, 5S and much more.
