I was single mom for a while, I would say best is to find support, family, friends or community group to have on hand for times of extreme stress or ilness, or just a break. The good news is that once they’re both at school things get much easier, and since they’re close age they can play together once they’re older.
A set schedule is vital. I have been a single mom for a long time and the things that have kept me sane are having meals, bathtime and bedtime at the same times everyday. This gives a certain order to any day, whether it be a good day or a hectic one. It also gives children a stability. As they get older, they will be better behaved for her, because they will know what is expected of them. Tell her to make the bed times early enough so that she has “her” time to relax and unwind. Whether it be to watch a favorite show on tv, talk on the phone in peace and quiet or just sit on the couch cross eyed. LOL! Good Luck!
First of all your friend needs to step up. She made the choices that got her here and she needs to take care of business. Second, don’t make excueses EVER. Be realistic about what you can get done in a certain amount of time and plan accordingly. Third, don’t take on more than you can actually accomplish, then just do it.
