What do you do when you just SUCK at time management?
I’m in college and I’m a really good student. I do well on my tests and papers. I’ve always been an A student. But since I got to college, I struggle to keep my GPA at a 3.0. Why? I’m so unorganized as far as time management. I try so hard to stop procrastinating but for some reason I can’t. I miss a lot of class because I can never get up early in the morning, so even though I score really high on my exams, my grades come down because my attendance is poor and sometimes I don’t hand my homework in because I oversleep and miss class! I know it sounds stupid but this is a serious problem. I think it’s because in high school, my mom used to spoil me and wake me up when it was time to get ready for school. Now that I don’t have that luxury, and being a night person, I find it so difficult to get up for class. I’m always up really late doing my work and studying. Any suggestions on how to break this awful cycle before I ruin my life??

Take night classes.
Well you said it, you’re a night person…Stop and desist and you’ll wake up on time.
the answer falls in “being a night person”. i’ve had a similar problem and the answer is that you need to change your sleeping habbits. get into a routine where you go to bed and wake up the same time every day. it may be tough at first but after a while you’ll get used to it.
I wa sin your boat earlier this year! You sound serious about fixing this problem, which is messing up your life! The most important thing is that YOU want to change. YOU have to put in the effort to make sure you are ready for class at 8:00 in the morning!
Buy an alarm clock, ditch the really cool and fun parties to make sure that you are ready for you midterm tomorrow!
I am sure if you make a list of all the things that are holding you down, and the solutions to those problems, you will not only be a better student but also a happier person!
I wish you all the best!
maybe you can find someone close to you to call and wake you up for class, or you could talk to your guidence counseler for help
Quit school and get a job as an exotic dancer. You’ll make far more money and you can sleep in all day.
I had a similar problem with morning classes in college as well. There are a few different ways to attack this problem.
The first is to shift your classes so that the majority, if not all, your classes are at 10am or later. Hopefully that makes them late enough so that you can stay up late and still get decent sleep. This is the way that make your classes fit your lifestyle.
The second is to a really loud alarm clock and set it for the correct time and then put it across the room from you. That way you actually have to get out of bed to turn it off. Hopefully while you are crossing the room you will wake up enough to realize that you need to get to class. This alone will work but only if you take naps after classes but before the evening activities. This is a compromise between you and your classes.
The third is to change your sleeping habits. It is a bit of a process but start by going to sleep earlier. Not a lot earlier just about an hour then in couple days go another hour earlier. Continue that pattern until you are getting at least 6-8 hours of sleep (That’s really my preference. Any less than 6 starts affecting my thought processes and motor skills). Then just continue to go to bed at that time. Remember that alarm from the previous choice? Use it the same as in that step. This will change your pattern of sleep. It should get to the point where occasionally you wake up a minute or two before your alarm goes off. That means you are where you should be. This is where you fit your classes.
The problem that can arise from this is that it can affect your weekend behavior. If you stay up really late on the weekends to take advantage of the lack of classes then a) this can throw your pattern off (this means starting over) and b) you will get tired when you usually go to bed and wake up when you usually wake up (even without your alarm clock).
College is where you learn to take control of your life. Go with the first option. Make your classes fit you. As far as procrastination goes, baby steps. Shoot for getting something done, that could be put off till after dinner, before dinner.
