Delegation, Your Weapon to Fight Overload
Do you sometimes feel that you have just too much on your shoulders when it comes to work and future tasks? Well, there is a great weapon that will ease the pressure and will free a lot of your time: delegation. Delegation puts you back in control of your time, and lets you spend time doing the more important stuff on your day.
A lot of people however, are not good at delegating tasks. The main reason for this problem is the lack of confidence in other people. “Control Freaks” have a hard time delegating, because they think no one can do the things they do as good as them. Other of the reasons is that you enjoy doing your task, this is great but it becomes a problem when it prevents you focusing on more important stuff.
What are the steps To Successfully Delegate People?
Here are some pointers that might help you walk on the right path:
- Analyze the person you think of delegating the work to. You should check if that person is really capable of performing well, or if the person is already loaded with work.
- Analyze your current tasks, make a list and then prioritize. In your list, you might find many items you can delegate to other people, because they don’t really need your assistance. You should focus your efforts in the hardest things on the list.
- According to the difficulty, speak with the person who will be in charge and be sure to answer all emerging questions. This will pay-off in the end and will save you time.
- Ask politely the person to do it - even if you are the boss. There’s nothing as a bad attitude to ruin your delegation efforts. Practice a little; learn some persuasion and your projects will walk problems-free.
